CFS-BC job opportunity: apply by Dec. 19 or 29
The Canadian Federation of Students - British Columbia Component (CFS-BC) has posted an employment opportunity for a Research and Communications Officer for a six-month term, starting January 2007. However, there are two different versions of this notice floating around, each indicating a different application deadline.
The notice on CharityVillage.com ("Canada's supersite for the non-profit sector"), which was posted on December 14, indicates that the deadline for applications is December 29, 2006, giving applicants 14 days to submit their résumés. In contrast, the PDF document that was emailed to all CFS member local associations in BC, also sent on December 14, states that the deadline for applications is December 19, 2006, giving applicants just 5 days (including the weekend) to submit their résumés. In addition, there are a number of small discrepancies between the CharityVillage version and the PDF version of the job. (For example, the CharityVillage version indicates that knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, IWork '06, Adobe Creative Suite 2 and Filemaker Pro is important, software that is not mentioned in the PDF document.)

wow, what a great news story. I'm sure that once you finish at SFU you will have a long career at 60 minutes ahead of you covering such great stories as this post.
Actually, I do think this is a good post. It develops this story, which may or may not go anyway. The point that two notices are going around does not reflect well on CFS-BC. I do public relations for a non-profit. Included in my responsibilities is the advertising of positions. I make sure that the version I send out is the same as the one on the website because it reflects upon the calibre of my organization.
I am happy to see CFS posting far and wide on this job. They do deserve credit for using Charity Village.
There is also another problem with the two postings, the one sent to the CFS member locals has a start date of 1 Jan 06 (a date which I believe has past almost last year), and the Charity Village posting has a start date of 03 Jan 07. I really think that this is a problem of most errors in administration, the result of cutting and pasting...
Yes this hardly seems sinister enough to be deliberate. The 19 to 29 was probably a typo, or you received an older version. I could see CFS BC sending one copy out to the members in early december, and then by the time they got around to posting on charity village they extended the deadline.
Who will apply?
Does anyone think it's a bit odd that the union at the SFSS is grieving an illegal hire of a Research and Policy Coordinator - a position into which the Deputy National Chair of the CFS was hired into wrongly - and then suddenly a Research and Communications Officer position suddenly opens up at CFS-BC?
Some kind of a parachute option, perhaps, in case the grievance succeeds?
Well, this stupidity with the ad makes one ask whether the CFS could collectively find its ass with a flashlight and a map.
I used to take this blog seriously, but posts like this make me realize that you're obviously just out to get an organization which you have personal problems with.
I almost regret voting to impeach at the SGM considering how much my opinion was influenced by this blog.
I think that people are reading too much into this post. A job opening at CFS might well be of interest to people who read regularily about student unions - perhaps somone who reads this blog might want to apply fro the job. And anyone who does want to apply might want to know that there are two versions of the job posting so that they can check to make sure that they have the correct information.

A little unfair to this blog, I think. The original post doesn't say "Differing deadlines expose conspiracy at CFS", and if anyone is considering applying this is important info--call the office to get the correct deadline!
I think BC could use a researcher.
Also a bookkeeper.
CFS MAKES TYPO: LET'S DEFEDERATE! You guys are morons.
Please, anyone who has paid any attention to what goes on at the CFS in this province knows that this post IS actually interesting.
For one, posting on Charity Village is simply done in order to be able say that the posting was put our widely.
Secondly, the deadlines simply show a total lack of regard for the content of the job posting. It isn't a typo, it is absolute lack of concern for the information contained within the posting.
The reality is that there is probably already someone who's been selected for the job. This happens a lot in the non-profit sector anyways but hiring in the CFS is always done this way. At best there is a competition between 2 or 3 pre-selected candidates. The job posting is a formality.
Who cares about the dates? That's not the story.
Maybe now you'll actually have some people doing some work that benefits the organization that hands over $200,000 to the CFS-BC.
Judging from the tone of a number of the posts, it's readily apparent that this blog is being read (and responded to) by a number of CFS hacks and apologists...that's good, if they're reading, then they have less time for suing...
CFS job opportunity! I wonder what the chances are of certain people getting this job.
Angela Regnier 85%
Margo Dunnett 10%
Brandy Zimmerman 4%
Shawn Hunsdale 1%
The last comment may not be to off the mark. At my school whenever a staff job from the BC office or the rest of the province came across the wire we always did a betting pool as to whose job it actually was.
So who actually got this cushy little gig?
This is interesting to me, as one of the candidates for this job. In particular, I am a candidate for this job who is not one of those usual suspects listed by another poster. More than a little disheartening.
